Forget the image of a game played on the vicarage lawn, modern croquet has something for everyone. It can be played by people of all ages and genders on an equal basis, with differing levels of fitness and skill (thanks to a handicap system). There is no need for specialist equipment as we will lend you all you need until you are ready to buy your own mallet. We ask that you wear a pair of flat soled shoes when playing.

 We play a form of Croquet called Golf Croquet, which is a fast paced and sociable game, where you’ll soon make friends and can pick up the basics in just 10 minutes, and with time you will learn all about the tactics. It’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise the body and the brain!

From April to September we play hosted roll-ups four times per week when anyone can play. We draw cards to see who plays with whom and you are guaranteed a game. We play:- Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., Wednesdays at 2 p.m. (followed by tea and cake in the Pavilion) and Fridays at 10 a.m.

The lawns are also available at most other times during the week for individually arranged games, with some weekend play unless there is a cricket match. We also have an extensive social programme throughout the season, with fun competitions followed by dinner at the pub.  In the winter months, when croquet cannot be played, we offer bridge, Mahjong and other games, chess, walks, coffee mornings and pub lunches. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned tournament player we will be delighted to welcome you to our Club. You can play just for fun or enter our internal competitions, play friendly or league games against other clubs - the choice is yours.
